What is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®?

Our goal at Linden Oak Wealth Partners is to assist women in making sound financial decisions for all major transitions in life – including divorce. Divorce was certainly the last thing on your mind when you entered into your marriage, but the decision to divorce has significant financial repercussions. To best serve clients who are ready to file for divorce, Founder and Principal, Wendy Moyers, has recently acquired her Certificate of Divorce Financial Analyst® certification and is a practicing CDFA® professional.

What Is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst®?

A CDFA® professional has undergone specific training and testing, designed to forecast both the short-term and long-term financial repercussions of your divorce settlement. While you are sure to have a divorce attorney advocating for you and your family’s best interests, your CDFA® will help you to visualize the ramifications of the many financial decisions you must make. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • What financial data and documents do you need to gather?

  • You may love your house, but is it the best financial decision to keep it?

  • Should your retirement funds be split 50/50?

  • How should you divide debt?

  • Which individual and shared assets will provide you with the best short-term and long-term stability?

  • How much does your current lifestyle cost to maintain? How does this change if you have sole custody?

  • What are the tax implications of your proposed settlement?

  • Who is the primary breadwinner? How will that impact your settlement?

  • What is an equitable, yet fair division of assets?

  • What should your post-divorce financial goals be?

Why Work With a CDFA®?

Divorce is often a time when emotions are running high. To be amicable, or to speed up the process, it is not uncommon to make rapid decisions regarding the division of assets. However, these decisions rarely go beyond meeting your immediate needs. Your CDFA® will provide you with the unbiased, factual data regarding your settlement options. They will help you to look beyond the emotional division of assets and to how each decision can have a long-term impact on your financial security.
